10 Pride Resources For Teachers

SupplyWell have collated 10 Pride resources for teachers to celebrate and educate on LGBTQ+ acceptance this #PrideMonth

Pride resources for teachers are important to distribute this #PrideMonth. Pride is about acceptance, equality, celebrating the work of LGBTQ+ people, education in LGBTQ+ history and raising awareness of issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community. It’s important to us that as many teachers have access to LGBTQ+ resources as possible, so we have collated 10 FREE resources for you to explore this month and beyond!

1 ) LGBTQ Voices from the British Army

The LGBTQ+ Voices resource is aimed at student sages 11 to 16 and aims to build understanding of the LGBTQ+ community, explore the contributions of LGBTQ+ Army personnel past and present, and discuss how we can all become better allies to other communities and groups.

The resource pack contains materials for a lesson and assembly with some content going back to World War One and Two. Definitely a useful resource to deliver to pupils during Pride month.

2) Stonewalls Best Practice Toolkit

Stonewall have spent more than 30 years working towards a world where all children and young people have access to an LGBTQ+ inclusive education.

Stonewall has a team of education professionals who work on resources and guidance to help schools and educators with their LGBTQ+ inclusive work. Here you can find best practice guidance and policy templates, posters or lesson packs written by a qualified teacher.

3) Educate and Celebrate Pride in Education

Here you can get some free taster resources of inclusive lesson plans and assemblies including a Pride month assembly plan, assembly plans across key stages and a calendar to help you keep track of important inclusivity dates. If you sign up as a member you get access to an array of LGBTQ+ resources.

4) Twinkl Pride

If you work in schools you will be no stranger to Twinkl resources! For Pride month they have a dedicated LGBTQ+ pride resource section of their website where you can find videos, powerpoints, lesson plans and ideas and much more.

5)  Amazing People Schools

This pride month Amazing People Schools are showcasing famous and influential LGBTQ+ stars on their website and social media. A good resource to start an inclusive lesson and open up conversations.

6) Diverse Educators

Diverse Educators work hard to build resources and toolkits on key themes affecting the diverse educators’ network and schools. Their LGBTQ+ Inclusion toolkit has a fantastic bank of resources including articles, blogs, books, podcasts, videos and more resources!

7) Just Like Us

Just Like Us works with schools across the UK to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ young people. They help schools set up pride groups so LGBTQ+ and ally students have a safe space in their school. They also have trained volunteers that speak at schools and discuss growing up LGBTQ+. Just Like Us also organise School Diversity Week across the UK in celebration of LGBTQ+ equality in  primary and secondary schools, providing free educational resources.

8) Diversity Role Models

Diversity Role Models is on a mission to embed inclusion and empathy through education and role model storytelling. They have a range of primary and secondary resources that you can download for free.

9) The Proud Trust

The Proud Trust delivers training opportunities for teachers and other youth professionals, and creates LGBT+ positive resources for schools, colleges, and other youth settings, to equip them in being fully LGBT+ inclusive in their practice, policy, and curriculum. Excitingly, all of The Proud Trust’s education and training work is informed directly by the LGBT+ young people that access the youth provisions.

10) LGBTEd

“Let’s be the role models we needed when we were at school.” We love this quote! LGBTEd have some amazing blogs and are a great Pride resource for teachers all year round. They especially empower LGBTQ+ teachers in their visibility as an LGBTQ+ educator and offer training courses and networking opportunities.

We hope you find these resources useful during pride month, and we encourage you to continue to celebrate inclusivity in the classroom throughout the year. Do you have a LGBTQ+ teacher resource to add to our list? Let us know on all the usual channels Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin and Instagram
