After a busy year as a supply educator, the summer holidays are the perfect opportunity to unwind and take time for yourself. But how will you spend your break?
The annual 6-week summer holidays is an excellent opportunity for educators to unwind and recharge before another academic year. And as schools begin to break up for the summer holidays, here’s a few ideas on how to make the most of your well deserved break.
UK City Breaks & Staycations
- Glamping has soared in popularity in recent years and offers plenty of opportunity to experience a wonderful mix of city, coast and countryside – especially in the North West of England. From shepherd’s huts to more luxury lodges, there’s a torrent of beautiful locations to choose from.
- Looking for more adventure? Keswick, situated on the banks of Derwent Water, is the perfect place in the Lake District to spend your days trialling different watersports, walking in the hills, discovering the valleys surrounding the town and stopping in cosy country pubs for lunch.
- York is an ideal destination for a weekend of exploring. As one of the UK’s oldest cities, it boasts an abundance of historical sites, including some of the best-preserved medieval city walls in Europe. In addition to its rich history, York offers 35 museums to discover, numerous excellent restaurants and cafes to enjoy, and a vibrant cultural scene to immerse yourself in.
Learn Something New
- Take a look on Eventbrite or your local community Facebook groups to see if there are any exciting workshops, classes or online classes that interest you to get involved in over the next 6-weeks. These could relate to education or be a completely new hobby!
- Whilst we have been enduring an unprecedented wet English summer, now may be the time to take up some crafting or complete those unfinished DIY projects around your home.
Prioritise Self-Care & Your Wellbeing
- Supporting your wellbeing and mental health is vitally important throughout the summer holidays. You should take plenty of time for gentle exercise, healthy eating and ensuring you’re getting lots of rest, so you can feel rejuvenated for the new academic year.
- Join our community platform, Teachers Matter, so you can receive support, advice and share tips or tricks with other teachers, TAs or cover supervisors. You can also share experiences with other educators and know that you’re never alone when you feel that your mental wellbeing may be suffering.
- Feel empowered and more in control of your mental health with EveryMind at Work. Access tailored tools and resources from the comfort and convenience of your own home. EveryMind at Work incorporates mindfulness and encourages proactive management of your own mental health through engaging content and insights.
- If you’re already a SupplyWell Educator, don’t forget we offer a free Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) provided by Health Assured to support your health and wellbeing. You’ll even gain access to some incredible perks and discounts via the Wisdom app.
